All of our children have a specified curriculum which is utilized within their age group. Every classroom has a designated time during the day where circle time is being implemented. This is a time where the group comes together to discuss the day’s activities, review letters, numbers, sight words, body parts, colors, singing songs, etc.
It is so important to all of our teachers and families to remember that so much of our children’s day is learning through play. Children learn an extreme amount of daily skills through mimicking behaviors they have experienced from family members, friends, and teachers. Children are learning self-help skills, independence, and organization just to name a few through play.
Outside play is just as important to us. Children need fresh air and the ability to run outside in a large safe place which is required daily. In addition, we have a large 1,000 square foot in door gym for our children to engage in gross motor activities on a regular basis.
Appelbaum Curriculum
Our Orange (2-3 year old) and Green (3-4 year old) Rooms use Appelbaum to teach our children self-help, manners, motor skills, and better communication skills. They also include four subjects that they learn daily that they rotate through; science, math, art, and language. The curriculum also includes circle time, sight words, and letter and number recognition.
Learning Without Tears
Our Blue (4-5 year old) Rooms use Learning Without Tears to prepare our students for Kindergarten. The program uses a workbook as a tool to ensure our students are learning sight words, letters and numbers, and penmanship. They continue to do their four subjects (science, math, art, and language) with more of a hands-on learning approach. The curriculum focuses on the student learning in a way that can be multi-sensory and cross-curricular connected to ensure our learners are advancing in the right way for Kindergarten.
